Joy is not found in the perfect day, but in the God who is with us today.
Monday
Matthew 6.31-34
Jesus knows how easily our minds leave today. We replay yesterday, anticipate tomorrow, and try to solve problems that have not even happened yet. But Jesus keeps bringing us back to the life God has actually given us: today. That does not mean tomorrow is unimportant or that planning is wrong. It means you were never meant to carry tomorrow before it arrives.
Maybe you are entering a new school year, a new season at work, a changing family rhythm, or simply another ordinary week. There are probably things you cannot predict and outcomes you cannot control. Jesus invites you to trust that the God who is with you today will also be there tomorrow.
Instead of asking, “How am I going to handle everything coming?” ask, “Where is God inviting me to trust him today?” Then take the next faithful step in front of you.
🌅 Jesus, help me receive today instead of worrying my way through tomorrow. Show me the next step you want me to take with you.
Tuesday
Isaiah 43.1-2
God never promises that following him means avoiding deep water or difficult seasons. In Isaiah, he tells his people that they may pass through rivers and walk through fire. The promise is not that trouble will never come. The promise is, “I will be with you.”
That changes what courage looks like. Courage is not knowing that nothing difficult will happen. It is knowing you will not face what happens alone.
Think about something you are carrying right now that you wish God would simply remove. It is okay to ask him to change it. But also ask a second question: “God, how are you with me in this?” Look for his presence in the people who encourage you, the strength you did not think you had, the peace that shows up unexpectedly, or simply the assurance that you can keep going one more day.
🌊 God, I would love for some things to change, but even before they do, help me recognize that you are here with me.
Wednesday
John 15.9-11
Jesus connects joy with staying close to him. That is different from the way we normally think about joy. We often assume joy will appear when life gets easier, when plans work, when people cooperate, or when we finally get what we have been waiting for. Jesus says there is a kind of joy that grows from relationship with him.
That means joy is available even on an ordinary Wednesday.
Today, try not to make joy another thing you have to manufacture. Instead, spend a few minutes simply being with Jesus. Read these verses slowly. Tell him what is happening in your life without editing it. Then sit quietly for a moment and remember that you are loved by God before you accomplish anything today.
Joy often grows less from chasing a better life and more from becoming aware of the God who is already present in the life you have.
☀️ Jesus, keep me close to you today. Let my joy grow from knowing that I am loved and that I get to walk through this day with you.
Thursday
2 Corinthians 4.16-18
Some seasons wear us down. Paul knew that feeling. He faced trouble, disappointment, opposition, and exhaustion, yet he learned not to measure his whole life by what he could see in one difficult moment.
That is important because a bad day can convince us that everything is bad. One discouraging conversation can color the whole week. One setback can make us believe nothing is changing. One painful season can feel like it will last forever.
Paul invites us to widen the frame. God is doing work in us that may not yet be obvious. The story is bigger than what happened today.
Think about one area where you are discouraged because progress feels slow. Instead of judging the whole story from this moment, ask God to help you trust what you cannot yet see. You may be standing in the middle of something God has not finished.
🌱 God, when I can only see what is difficult right now, help me remember that you are still working. Give me patience with the story you are writing.
Friday
Philippians 4.4-7
Paul’s invitation to rejoice comes with an important reminder: “The Lord is near.” That is the foundation underneath everything else he says. We can pray instead of panic, give thanks instead of being consumed by fear, and experience peace because God is close.
Notice that Paul does not tell us to ignore what makes us anxious. He tells us to bring it to God.
So try that today. Name one thing that has been taking up too much space in your mind. Be specific. Tell God what you are afraid might happen, what you wish would happen, and what you cannot control. Then thank him for one way he has already been faithful to you.
You may not walk away with every answer. But prayer reminds your heart that the problem is not the only thing present in the room. God is there too.
🕊️ God, here is what I am carrying today. Help me release what I cannot control and become more aware of your presence and peace.
Saturday
Psalm 103.1-5
Sometimes gratitude comes naturally. Other times we have to remind ourselves.
David actually speaks to his own soul in Psalm 103: do not forget what God has done. He remembers forgiveness, healing, rescue, love, mercy, and the good things God has given him. He is intentionally turning his attention toward God’s faithfulness.
That does not mean forgetting the hard things. It means refusing to let the hard things become the only things we remember.
Take a few minutes today and look backward. Where has God carried you this year? When did you receive strength at the right moment? Who did God place in your life? What prayer has been answered? Where have you grown, healed, changed, or made it through something you once wondered if you could handle?
Write down three things. Then simply say, “I thank God.”
🎧 God, help me remember your goodness. Thank you for the ways you have carried me, provided for me, and stayed with me along the way.
Sunday
Hebrews 13.5-8
Life changes quickly. New seasons begin. Plans shift. People come and go. Some changes are exciting, and others are painful. But Hebrews gives us something steady to hold onto: Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Your circumstances may be different next month. You may not know what this school year, this season, or even this week will bring. But the Jesus who has been faithful to you before is the Jesus who is with you today.
That is why you can say YES to him again.
You do not have to promise that you will never worry, struggle, or have a bad day. Simply give him the day in front of you. Ask him to lead you, help you, and make you aware of his presence.
Joy is not found in a perfect day, but in the God who is with us today.
🙌 Jesus, I say YES to you today. Whatever this day brings, help me walk through it with you and trust that you will remain faithful.
