I Almost Skipped My Time with God This Morning
Luke 9.44–62 — 7/9/26
I'm constantly attracted to unpopular + minor verses this time through Luke. God, you are showing me new things that I need to hear right now.
"Jesus let nothing distract him from departing from Jerusalem because he knew his mission + vision." (v51)
Help me to stay focused. First, on knowing you more. I almost did something else with my time this morning. Even though we just talked about this at dinner last night. I value this time with you so much, but it's so easy to get distracted by my ever-growing to-do list.
And second, let nothing distract us from our vision + mission to reach people throughout the CV with the wonderful news of Jesus. Programs, events, activities, even buildings + finances + campuses aren't the point. It's the salvation of souls + the transformation of lives, families, + communities. Keep me focused. Keep Passion focused.
"Jesus was full of passion to complete his mission here." (v51)
Yes! I want that! Fill me up + crank up the heat until I boil over with passion for you + for our cities.
"The Son of Man did not come to destroy life, but to bring life to the earth." (v55)
From "sinners" to kids to widows to Samaritans, Jesus was seeking to help every person flourish. Treating the least with care + respect makes us truly great. And we can never give up on those who feel far from you.
Yet even his followers lost sight of the mission, but Jesus said,
"Don't you realize what springs from your hearts when you talk like that?" (v55)
Work in our hearts. Help us always love + serve the ones who need it most.
